Knitting Pattern Technical Editing & Design Services
At Heritage Arts Co., we believe passing along handcraft skills is one of the greatest gifts that we can give future generations. As knitters, one of the ways we do this is by producing timeless designs with well-written patterns that can be appreciated for years to come.
As a designer, you pour your heart and soul into every design, and it can be a long journey in bringing that idea to life, not only in a knitted form, but also in a written form. It may be intimidating to make sure every detail from proper grammar to correct stitch counts is perfect before your release your pattern to the world. Let me help you be confident in bringing a polished pattern to market!
My tech edits include a thorough review to check English spelling and grammar, pattern formatting, and all pattern math such as stitch counts and finished measurements. I also review any charts included in the pattern for techniques ranging from basic stitch patterns and cables to more intermediate lace and colorwork. I can also perform a line-by-line comparison to accompanying written instructions if requested.
As a long-time knitter myself, I've had the joy of working from many well-written patterns, but I've also read many patterns that are lacking or unclear. I want every pattern that crosses my desk to be part of the former. In addition to basic tech editing, I also read through every pattern and make any copy/composition suggestions that would make the pattern more readable, understandable, and knit-able for the average knitter.
Knitting was my first true creative love, and when I discovered the world of technical editing for knitting patterns, it was like falling in love with the craft all over again. Editing patterns gives me the opportunity to combine my creative passion with the attention to detail and analytical problem solving skills I’ve acquired through a career in finance and accounting. I have completed The Tech Editor Hub’s courses in Tech Editing and Schematics Creation & Illustration, and will be pursuing my Certification for Technical Editors through The Knitting Guild Association.
